China plans to dispatch four new peacekeepers to Haiti, a day after the nation bid farewell to eight Chinese officers who were killed in the Haiti earthquake, the Xinhua News Agency reported Wednesday.

The peacekeepers are on standby and could leave as soon as a flight to Haiti is available, the report said, without giving a timetable.

The move came right after Chinese leaders and the public said farewell to the eight peacekeepers at Babaoshan cemetery in Beijing, where revolutionary heroes are laid to rest.

The newly deployed officers are Hu Yunwang, Duan Zhonghui, and He Guangwei, three police officer from the border control department in Guangdong Province. He Guangwei is also a psychologist.

The forth officer is Si Jindong, a press officer from the Ministry of Public Security.

Hu Yunwang, 44, told Xinhua that he felt conflicted about his new mission.

He was informed about his new mission in the middle of the night last Friday.

"Frankly, when I received the order, my feelings were mixed with sadness, responsibility and pressure. But I have been trying to get myself to-gether," Hu said.

Duan Zhonghui, 36, a mother of an 11-year-old girl, said she has been repeatedly listening to a voice message from her daughter.

"Mom, I love you", the girl said, after she departed home.

"She also sent me a text message saying she wants to donate her pocket money to Haiti," she said.

Duan is the only woman among the four peacekeepers and she would handle communication and translation for the peacekeeping teams in Haiti.

"My first mission is to be strong and optimistic and leave the pain behind," she said.

Officer Liu, who works with Duan, told the Global Times Thursday that they are proud of Duan's appointment.

"We soldiers will happily go wherever we're assigned," he said.

Bao Qingjun, a Beijing resident, told the Global Times Thursday that sending more peacekeepers to Haiti demonstrates the country's responsibilities as a powerful nation.

"Even though we lost some talents, but our country has earned respect from the international community in return," he said. "I am willing to go if the country sends me."

A total of 142 Chinese peacekeepers were deployed in Haiti before the earthquake occurred.

A rescue team of more than 60 people left Beijing Wednesday along with 10 tons of food, equipment and medicines, according to Xinhua.

China would offer 30 million yuan ($4.41 million) aid to Haiti in accordance with the changing situation in the country, Ma Zhaoxu, spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a press conference Thursday, noting that whether China would send a peacekeeping force depended on the UN.
